Crazy Horse Memorial

After your meal, continue on US-16E for about five miles to Crazy Horse Memorial. No bucket list is complete without a visit to this stunning monument that depicts the Oglala Lakota leader Crazy Horse riding his horse and pointing out into the Black Hills “where his dead lay buried”.  Bus rides are even available so you can get up close and personal with the massive carving. Be sure to check out their gift shop, which features Native American art and other handmade items that will make perfect souvenirs to take home.

Crazy Horse Memorial

The Mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North American Indians.

Hike Black Elk Peak

Black Elk Peak is the highest point in South Dakota, making a hike up to the summit a great bucket list item. After leaving Crazy Horse, travel only 22 miles via US-385 South and SD-89 North to the Black Elk Peak Hiking Trail. The 4-5 hour hike can get moderately difficult, especially towards the end, but offers stellar views of the Black Hills at the top. Make sure to wear comfortable, waterproof shoes and dress in layers, as South Dakota weather is notorious for its rapid changes.

Dining at Boss Pizza and Chicken

After your heart-pumping hike, you will have worked up an appetite! Head back to Keystone and replace all those carbs you’ve burned up at South Dakota’s own Boss Pizza and Chicken. You can order from the menu or enjoy their extra-large buffet. If you are exhausted from your day, just head back to your room – they deliver!
